Supercopa D’Espana is El Clasico Again!

Real Madrid vs Barcelona

We all love an El Clasico and the Supercopa d’Espana has obliged again, for the third year in succession, as Hansi Flick’s Barcelona will try to wrestle the title away from Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in Saudi on Sunday.

Barcelona are hoping to add to their 14 Supercopa titles having beaten Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final while current holders and La Liga Leaders Real Madrid beat Real Mallorca to set up this showdown, and Los Blancos are currently on 13. The latest Barcelona vs Real Madrid betting odds say Ancelotti’s men could edge this in their fourth consecutive final, but it will be a close call, and the Catalans have re-enforcements on the way.

Talking Points

Olmo and Victor available for Barca

The ongoing financial sideshow at Barcelona has been an unhelpful distraction for some time but club president Joan Laporta’s juggling act has had a minor success over the past few days; and the big Supercopa d’Espana 2025 news from the Catalan camp is that two key players have been cleared to play in the final.

Only two weeks ago it looked like Dani Olmo and Pau Victor might be barred from playing for the Blaugrana for the foreseeable future, but a very recent ruling has freed the pair in time for the Supercopa final. 23 year old winger Victor is a useful addition to the Barca squad but the availability of Olmo is a huge boost. The Spain star signed a six year deal when he moved from Red Bull Leipzig, in a 60m Euros switch, after he had helped La Roja win Euro 2024. Olmo’s first appearance was delayed by registration problems but since he has scored five goals in 11 appearances and he’s a potent creative force between the Barcelona midfield and attack.

Victor and Olmo were only registered for the first half of the 2024/25 campaign as the club struggled to meet wage cap restrictions, and last week the Spanish Football Federation and La Liga rejected Barcelona’s request to re-register the players. But, on Wednesday, the Spanish National Sports Council intervened to grant a temporary reprieve and, while the semi-final against Athletic Club came too early, both Olmo and Victor are available to play in the final on Sunday.

Goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal, back in action after a two game absence, were enough to sink Bilbao on Wednesday night at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and, with Olmo and Victor ready to return, the Catalans have a star studded creative group ready to wow the Saudi fans.

Resurgent Bellingham makes Real favourites

Los Blancos put out a star-studded team to face Real Mallorca with Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde all in the starting line-up; and they put Mallorca to the sword with 65 per cent possession, 28 shots to eight and a whopping 11 on target, while keeper Thibaut Courtois had a quiet night. But Mallorca held out until the 63rd minute, and it was the back-to-form Bellingham who struck the vital blow. After top scoring for Los Blancos in his first campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu, the England man made a quiet start to the 2024/25 season. But he’s scored seven goals in his last eight league games and he inspired Madrid on to an ultimately comfortable win as Mallorca’s Martin Valjent, with an own goal, and Rodrygo both netted in injury time to make it 3-0. Vinicius, who will serve a two match ban when the La Liga campaign resumes, was a livewire and Ancelotti will start with him again in the final before his suspension kicks in.

There will be a late call on Real’s defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni who was substituted on 54 minutes with a head injury, to be replaced by youngster Raul Ascencio.

History

Last year Los Blancos beat Barcelona 4-1 in the Supercopa final to avenge a 3-1 defeat the year before; and Vinicius scored a hat-trick in the 2024 rout.

Real Madrid come into the game on a five match winning run while Barcelona have won three and lost two, both league games, to Leganes and Atletico Madrid. So Los Blancos are in better form and we’re ready to rumble on Sunday; so let’s take a look at the best SBOTOP Asian handicap sports betting offers and make a call.

Betting Tip

The fans in Saudi are due a treat on Sunday as two of the top club sides in world football are set to put on a show, with the significant prizes of a Supercopa and a psychological edge as they enter the second half of the 2024/25 La Liga campaign.

You can make a good case for either team. Los Blancos are marginal favourites at odds of 2.38 to win this clash in 90 minutes, with the Blaugrana at 2.74 and the draw is priced at 3.98. Ancelotti’s men have the edge but I’m predicting a win by the odd goal in three…though I haven’t decided which way!
