Suwon Bluewings vs Gwangju FC
The Suwon Bluewings are coming off of a disappointing effort during their last K-League match against Busan I.Park and they will look to recoup as they host Gwangju FC this weekend.
These two teams are occupying different sides of the standings. The home team are seating at the eighth spot with four points while the visitors are at the rock bottom with only a single point.
Suwon have had an up-and-down campaign so far this term. Before being held to a goalless draw against Busan I.Park during the last time out, the Lee Lim-saeng coached squad initially suffered back-to-back losses against top-tier teams in Jeonbuk and Ulsan before winning versus Incheon United in the third matchday.
As for Gwangju FC, they are fresh from an inspiring effort against Ulsan Hyundai last week and they will look to build on their momentum in their continuous search for their first win of the season.
Will Gwangju FC finally get to taste victory at the expense of the home team? Or will the Suwon Bluewings add more misery to the visitors’ campaign so far?
Together with SBOBET, let us discuss the outlook for both of these teams.
Talking Points
Suwon look to get back on track
For the first four games, the Suwon Bluewings have yet to hit their peak form due to their inconsistencies on both ends of the pitch.
Adam Taggart, who was the winner of the Golden Boot last year, has yet to find his footing particularly because Lee Lim-saeng continues to tinker with his team tactics.
The Suwon Bluewings have adapted a 3-5-2 formation in the last three games and although it has produced a mixed bag of K-League 2020 results so far, it might prove to be beneficial for the team moving forward.
The said formation gives an opportunity for Adam Taggart and Sulejman Krpic to spearhead the attack. At the same time, it also gives the likes of Donell Henry and Terry Antonis to shine when needed.
Antonis came off the bench against Busan and he is expected to be part of the starting XI along with Henry to captain the backline.
Lee Lim-saeng’s men were simply outplayed by Busan in the last time out as they failed to generate more chances than their opponent. In fact, they were bailed out by goalkeeper No Dong-geon in multiple instances despite their sloppy defence.
Slowly but surely, the Bluewings continue to work on their overall play. And if they can avoid any major injuries and suspensions from their key players, they should be fine in the next few matches.
Gwangju FC earning some praise
The last time I covered Gwangju FC, it looked like they were bound to free-fall after a lacklustre run during the first few matchdays. However, their performance last week has gathered some eyeballs.
The Park Jin-seop-mentored squad were able to push Ulsan Hyundai to the limit as they took an early lead against the visitors. It was just unfortunate that Lee Han-do had an own goal that leveled the score 10 minutes later.
Nonetheless, getting a point against the second-ranked team is a good story in itself already for the newly-promoted side. And with the likes of Willyan and Kim Jeong-hwan returning soon, Gwangju may be poised to give their opponents a scare.
Felipe remains to be the missing link for Gwangju FC. The Brazilian talisman has yet to find the back of the net despite scoring 19 goals last year.
History
These two clubs have met each other 17 times over the years. Suwon have won 10 times while Gwangju won in five along with two draws.
The last time they met was in the FA Cup where the Bluewings have dominated Gwangju for two straight occasions – scoring a 3-0 and a 2-1 tally back in 2017.
Betting Tip
Suwon Bluewings vs Gwangju FC | Suwon Bluewings Asian Handicap -0.50 @1.91 | |
June 6, 18:00 (GMT+8) |
The K-League 2020 odds show a huge disparity between these two clubs. Suwon are favourably priced at 1.90 while Gwangju are lagging behind at 3.90 and a draw is at 3.35.
The Suwon Bluewings are heavily favoured to win in this fixture ultimately because of their quality advantage, but it would be hard to completely count out Gwangju FC given their recent performance.
I expect both of these teams to go at it in what should be a tense affair, and it’s safe to say that goals may be hard to come by this weekend.
But if Taggart and Felipe would somehow rediscover their scoring ways, then football fans will be treated to a possible shootout.
