Bundesliga: Kai Havertz Turn His Sights on Bayern Munich

Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich is homing in on yet another league title with seven points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund with just five games to play, but on Saturday they face one more big test.

It’s the clash of the weekend, and Bundesliga: Leverkusen vs FC Bayern is also an opportunity to see if one of the hottest players in Europe can take on the very best.

Bayer skipper Kai Havertz has been in sensational form and he is Dortmund’s best hope of tripping up the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Hansi Flick’s Bayern have been virtually faultless on their return to action. And if they can withstand everything the hosts can throw at them, then surely they are home and dry.

Talking Points

Havertz wreaking havoc with all comers

He scored the only goal in Bayer’s 0-1 win against SC Freiburg last week and that followed two double strikes in the opening two fixtures following the Bundesliga restart.

After bagging 17 goals last term, Havertz has become Die Werkself’ top scorer this season – taking his total to 11.

A strong and skilful player, the 20-year-old has already been linked with a host of top European clubs and head coach Peter Bosz will be working hard to keep hold of his prized asset during the summer.

His form has inspired Bayer to the brink of Champions League qualification once again but it will be a race to the finish. They currently sit in fifth place, level on points with Borussia Monchengladbach and two behind third-placed RB Leipzig.

Losing 1-4 at home to Wolfsburg ended Bayer’s slim hopes of mounting a late title challenge but they bounced back well with the win over Freiburg and will hope to keep up the pressure on Saturday.

Havertz will be supported by creative wizards Karim Bellerabi and Leon Bailey, while nine-goal Kevin Volland could be fit to take part.

Hansi Flick has overseen just two defeats in 19 Bundesliga games since the sacking of Niko Kovac in November

Are Bayern beatable?

Die Bayern were utterly ruthless in their 5-0 destruction of Fortuna Dusseldorf last week, and seemingly have one hand on the Bundesliga trophy.

Here at SBOBET, we reckon it could be a done deal, with the Bavarians at 1.01 to win their eighth successive title.

But we rate Leverkusen too, pitching Die Werkself as second-favourites behind Bayern to win the German Cup at odds of 3.95.

This is an opportunity for Bosz team to show again they can beat the champions for the third time in succession.

Hansi Flick will sincerely hope not. And while Die Bayern is the most successful club in Germany, the 55-year-old is hoping to claim his first silverware. He has taken Bayern to the brink, with a 19-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

If Bayer are to prosper, they need to keep league top-scorer Robert Lewandowski quiet. The Polish striker has 29 goals for the season and has bagged four in four games since the restart, but he has failed to score in four attempts against Leverkusen.

History

So to answer that question, are Bayern beatable?

Yes of course, they are, as Die Werkself proved most recently when they took all three points when the two teams clashed at the Allianz Arena back in November. During the said game, Jamaican forward Leon Bailey scored twice as the visitors ran out 1-2 winners.

The underdogs also had Jonathan Tah sent off as Die Bayern missed a hatful of chances and Lewandowski drew a blank, heading against the crossbar in injury time.

The last time the two teams met here at the BayArena, the hosts pulled off a 3-1 victory and Bailey was on target again as the hosts roared back to win from a goal down.

Die Bayern’s domination in the head-to-head Leverkusen vs Bayern results has only been slightly dented by these two setbacks. They have won 38 of the 60 meetings since 1992, with Bayer winning 13 and there have been nine draws.

Betting Tip

??
Bayer Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich Total Goals 2-3 @ 2.36
June 6, 21:30 (GMT+8)

Bayern can be beaten, but the latest Leverkusen vs Bayern betting odds suggest that Leverkusen have a very tough task on their hands.

The hosts are at 5.61, with the draw at 4.46 and Bayern at 1.45 to win.

Bayern has the tightest defence in the league with only 28 goals breaching their defence, while Leverkusen have conceded 36.

So I don’t expect a hatful of goals as Bayer try to keep Lewandowski quiet for the fifth consecutive time, while Bayern try to shut out their hosts as they recently did to BVB.

If you fancy Die Werkself to get a result then the best bet may be the double chance of Leverkusen or draw at 2.53, while the most likely score-line is 1-2 at odds of 7.33.

It’s going to be a nail-biter and Havertz would simply love to write the headlines again.
