Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid
All roads lead to North London on Tuesday night when Champions League: Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid takes centre stage at the Emirates Stadium, in a tantalising second leg semi-final tie.
Arsenal and Atleti played out a 1-1 draw in Madrid and, with the tie nicely in the balance, both Mikel Arteta and Diego Simoene will believe their teams can do enough to book a date with either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich on May 30th at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Both teams come into the second leg on the back of a comfortable league win at the weekend, Arsenal extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points thanks a 3-0 win at home to Fulham, while Atletico Madrid won 2-0 away to Valencia. The pre-match Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid 2026 betting odds say the Gunners have the advantage, but in a winner takes all clash they will have to be at their best to beat Los Rojiblancos.
Talking Points
Saka return is timely for Arsenal
The Gunners kept their Premier League title campaign on track when they beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday with in-form striker Viktor Gyokeres scoring a brace to make it 14 for the league campaign and climb up to fourth place in the race for the Golden Boot. While he won’t catch Erling Haaland or Igor Thiago who are battling it out at the top, the Swedish striker has improved as the campaign has evolved and is repaying the faith Arteta showed in him when he made his big money switch from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

And Gyokeres will be delighted that Bukayo Saka made his first start since the Carabao Cup final as the England winger set up the Swede’s close-range opener and then Saka finished smartly for the second when Gyokeres returned the favour. Arteta pulled Saka off at the break with the second leg tie against Atleti in mind and he also gave Gyokeres a break after he had added his second and Arsenal’s third just before the break. Gabriel Jesus came on for half an hour, and he will hope to play some part on Tuesday, but I expect Gyokeres, scorer in the first leg to start and Saka to be alongside.
Strike pair fit for Atleti
Simeone managed to rest a host of his first teamers for the trip to Valencia and his second string did the business, with substitutes Iker Luque and Miguel Llorente scoring in a 2-0 win. The future looks bright with these youngsters impressing, but the immediate future needs Los Rojiblancos’ best players ready for action, and the club gave their fans a boost with the news that Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth are both fit to play.
Alvarez scored Atleti’s goal in the first leg, but he left the field late in the game after suffering a knock, but Sorloth didn’t feature at all, protecting a hamstring niggle. Simeone expects to have both strikers fit to start against Arsenal and that gives his team a much better chance against a resolute Gunners defence. Sorloth is the club’s leading league scorer with 12 goals while Argentine Alvarez has been the subject of transfer speculation with some of Europe’s top clubs tracking the player. Barcelona are looking for a replacement for the veteran goal machine Robert Lewandoewski and Alvarez has been on the Catalans’ radar; but Atleti have a deal on the table and are confident of keeping him at the club.
History
Arsenal are aiming to reach their second Champions League final after losing to Barcelona in the 2006 final. Atletico have been beaten finalists three times, on the last occasion they fell to Real Madrid, losing in a penalty shootout after drawing the final 1-1.
With two wins to one and there have been three draws, the Gunners have the edge in the head to head Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid 2026 results and at the Emirates they have won two and drawn one.
Arsenal have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six games, but are unbeaten in three and Atletico have just played out the very same pattern: Lose, Draw, Lose, Win, Draw, Win.
So, to retain perfect balance this next meeting will surely be a draw!
Betting Tip
Arsenal are at SBOTOP odds of 1.65 to win this second leg and make it through to the final, but Atletico is one of the toughest opponents in Europe and Los Rojiblancos fans will fancy their chances at 4.75, and the draw is a distinct possibility at a price of 3.70.
The return of Saka is a plus for Arsenal but Atletico have received a timely boost with the news that Alvarez and Sorloth are both fit to return and, with a chance to rest more players as their domestic league race is run I’d say the visitors will have plenty in their legs.
