RB Leipzig vs Borussia Monchengladbach
The Bundesliga title is beyond their reach, as Bayern Munich have built an unassailable lead in the German top-flight table, and the only thing that’s left for RB Leipzig is to secure a Top 4 place to return to the Champions League next season.
Ole Werner’s men are currently third in the table with 53 points, level with fourth-seeded VfB Stuttgart, and they can consolidate the third seed with a win against Borussia Monchengladbach this Saturday at the Red Bull Arena. RB Leipzig are in good form, having won four of their last five league matches.
Borussia Monchengladbach are 13th in the table with 30 points, only five points above the relegation zone. Because of their lacklustre 2025-26 campaign, the Foals front office has hinted that big changes could be coming this summer.
This is a big match for both sides, despite having different motivations, and SBOTOP has you covered with today’s preview.
Talking Points
RB Leipzig suffer defencive blow
RB Leipzig rose to third in the German top-flight table, as they boast a Top 5 offence this season. At 55 goals, the Red Bulls are joint-fifth with Hoffenheim in terms of the league’s total goal count so far, with six matchdays remaining.
Christoph Baumgartner (12), Yan Diomande (10), and Romulo Cardoso (eight) have accounted for more than half of RB Leipzig’s goals so far this season. It’s also worth noting that David Raum is joint-first in assists with six, level with Diomande and Baumgartner – highlighting head coach Ole Werner’s egalitarian approach in the final third.
The Red Bulls’ attack should be good for at least one goal against the Foals. However, it’s their defence that might be nitpicked this weekend, as they’ll be without one of their top centre-backs. Castello Lukeba sustained an adductor injury during the team’s 2-1 win against Werder Bremen, and the exact timeframe for his return remains unclear.
Lukeba’s fastest return could be against Eintracht Frankfurt on April 18. In the meantime, defencive midfielder Nicolas Seiwald could drop deeper and take his place at centre-half, which could promote Ezechiel Banzuzi or Assan Ouedraogo in the starting XI.
Critical juncture for Borussia Monchengladbach

The next six matchdays could make or break Eugen Polanski’s tenure with Borussia Monchengladbach, as it was reported that the Polish boss is in the hot seat despite being out of the drop zone. Polanski is under contract with the Foals until 2028, though. Since taking over, Polanski has averaged just 1.16 points per match, and fans are reportedly growing tired of his pragmatic tactics. Borussia Monchengladbach’s 2-2 draw against bottom feeders Heidenheim certainly didn’t help, as they almost lost the match.
Besides the looming uncertainty on Polanski’s job, the Foals could lose up to four key players this summer, as loanees Alejo Sarco, Kota Takai, Yannik Engelhardt, and Haris Tabakovic – their top scorer with 11 goals – are almost certain to leave.
History
RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach shared the spoils in a goalless draw last November at Borussia-Park, marking the third consecutive time that the Foals have taken points off the Red Bulls (W1, D2). RB Leipzig’s last win in this fixture was a 2-0 result in February 2024.
At 53 points, RB Leipzig already have more points on the board than they did at the end of last term (51), when they failed to qualify for European football for the first time since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016. At 55 goals, the Red Bulls have also surpassed their goal total from last campaign (53) with six matchdays to spare.
Borussia Monchengladbach haven’t won away from home since a 1-0 victory against Mainz last December. Since then, they’ve recorded three draws and five losses on the road.
Betting Tip
The Bundesliga 2026 odds expect RB Leipzig to take maximum points at Borussia Monchengladbach’s expense this weekend. The Red Bulls are 1.48 favourites to win, whereas the Foals are huge 5.10 underdogs, and a draw is at 4.33 in the 1X2 market.
Their last three meetings have been low-scoring, so we could see limited Bundesliga 2026 highlights from this fixture, but RB Leipzig should do just enough to see this through. Besides rooting for the hosts to win, bettors may also add Under 3.50 at 1.71, Under 3.25 at 1.96, Under 3.00 at 2.20, and even Total Goal 0-1 at 5.00 to the parlay.
However, if you fancy the Foals getting a point, check out the Correct Score of 0-0 – the result of their reverse fixture – given its mouthwatering offer of at least 21.00 your bet.
