Newcastle United are the hottest team in the Premier League with six consecutive wins, including last night’s 3-0 victory against the Wolves. As a result, the Magpies improved to fourth place in the English top-flight standings with 38 points.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth want to get to where Newcastle United are right now. The Cherries are eighth in the English top-flight standings with 34 points and are coming off a 2-2 draw against Chelsea yesterday, Andoni Iraola’s side is undefeated in their last eight league matches.

Isak hits new milestone with Newcastle United

Newcastle United are firing on all cylinders because of their striker, Alexander Isak. The big Swede has found the back of the net in each of his last eight appearances, making him only the fourth player in Premier League history to do this after Ruud van Nistelrooy, Daniel Sturridge, and Jamie Vardy, who scored in a record 11 top-flight games in Leicester’s 2015-16 title-winning season.

Alexander Isak notched a brace in Newcastle United’s victory against the Wolves and teed up Anthony Gordon for their third goal of the match during the 74th minute. He is now third in the Premier League Golden Boot race, with 15 goals. Because he is in superb form, Isak’s name has popped up in numerous transfer rumours, with Arsenal being his biggest admirer. It would be asinine for the Magpies to sell him in the winter transfer window, but, if they do, they will get a humongous transfer fee.

Besides Isak, Bournemouth will have their hands full in the middle of the park, as Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali are also in-form. Joelinton will likely join them in midfield again this weekend against the Cherries.

 

Bournemouth doing their best to cope

Bournemouth recently lost their top two strikers, Evanilson and Enes Unal, to injuries, but they did well against Chelsea. They should’ve won the match if it weren’t for Reece James’ stoppage-time equaliser. Cole Palmer put the Blues up 1-0, but Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo reclaimed the advantage for the Cherries in the second half. Andoni Iraola’s side played on the back foot, and they still mustered a point.

They were almost reduced to 10 men when David Brooks caught Marc Cucurella’s face with his arm, as the Chelsea left-back tried to go past him. However, the referees only gave Brooks a yellow card.

The Cherries had Dango Ouattara as the lone striker, with David Brooks, Ryan Christie (who teed up Semenyo), and Antoine Semenyo behind him. Justin Kluivert and fellow striker Daniel Jebbison came off the bench in the second half. Andoni Iraola can pick between them since they’re all playing well.

Newcastle United and Bournemouth have already faced off last August, and they shared the spoils on the second matchday of the 2024-25 season. Marcus Tavernier scored the first goal before Anthony Gordon notched the equaliser in the 1-1 draw. Before this, these two teams had a 2-2 draw last February, with Anthony Gordon and Matt Ritchie scoring for Newcastle United and Dominic Solanke and Antoine Semenyo scoring for Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe has never beaten Bournemouth in the Premier League in six attempts (D5, L1). Howe had two stints at the coaching helm with the Cherries in 2008 to 2011 and 2012 to 2020. Eddie Howe finished 18th in the Premier League in his final year with Bournemouth, so the Cherries were relegated to the Championship.
